Immortal Memories

Immortal MemoriesGreetings, Dreamers!

Immortal Memories is now available!  It contains nine stories, each a single moment in the life of an Immortal, throughout history.

It is available on Amazon here.

This is a re-release with two new stories.  The paperback will be $7.99 and the Kindle version will be offered at an introductory $2.99 for a limited time!

All of the stories in this collection are related to the Waking Dream, and will give you a deeper insight into the characters you met in Waking Dream: Devlin

Each story is a different genre, to appeal to a wide range of readers:

One – The story of the beginning of the Waking Dream Universe told by the first Immortal One — formatted as a biblical story.

The Black Heart in Madness – This is the story of the final days of Ludwig II of Bavaria, and is an alternate history story with my take on his mysterious death, as well as explaining the importance of the artifact known as The Black Heart — mentioned in Devlin.

The Fairy In Red – A paranormal romance set in 1920’s New Orleans about a writer obsessed with an ethereal beauty, as he tirelessly waits night after night for her to return to a pub so he can get just one last glimpse of her.  Can you guess who the narrator is?

So Long But Never Good Bye – Another paranormal romance, set in during World War II.  This story chronicles the beginnings of a long-standing love affair between Olivia and Grigor.

The Place of the Sisters – A folk-lore tale spun by Grandfather Maxwell at one of the earlier Halloween celebrations in Devlin.  It is the tale of three strange girls and their plight after being ejected from their home town.  This story is woven into Devlin as well, and is a key to the next book in the series, The Unkindness.

What Rough Beast – This is my attempt at tasteful erotica.  It is the story of a man who is inhabited by an entity known as The Beast — the Eater of Sins.  In exchange, our narrator is given limited immortality to indulge his darker passions, keeping women as pets — of their own free will.  This story explores the depths of human depravity, and further examines the role of the Beast in the series.  Not recommended for those who are easily offended. It has been called a paranormal 50 Shades of Grey.

Vacant Eyes on the Eternal Sea – This is a new addition to the collection.  It is a paranormal tale of a failed writer who finds himself obsessed with a hotel in Virginia Beach.  He quickly discovers that his obsession was for reasons beyond his control.

The Charnel House – This is a horror/paranormal story about three adventurous gamers who have decided to become paranormal investigators.  However, the house they chose to investigate turns out to be more than they could have ever bargained for.

The Blood Dolls – This is a  magical tale about Virgil the blood doll maker, and how one night a stranger comes to him and teaches him how to animate his friends to assist him in the days to come, following the Transformation of the Waking Dream.

Here are some reviews from the previous edition:

Anne Synder – Amazon Review – 5 Stars

“This is a fascinating set of stories by a, in my opinion, brilliant author and philosopher. What a fascinating new world I have discovered thanks to him.”

M Woisard – Amazon Review – 4 stars

“Waking Dreams – Immortal Memories
I enjoyed the collection of short stories in this series and can’t wait for more. The characters are memorable, and the stories unique and intriguing. The timelines for many of the tales give a good sense of the longevity of the Immortals, and their pivotal roles in the Waking Dream universe slowly being revealed. As a new writer on the scene Mr. Hibbard shows great promise. From the Blood Dolls with their cotton hearts, to the whispery, sensual, Fairy in Red, these tales capture the imagination, and leave you with new friends you’d like to meet again, and dark, powerful enemies you’re safer only reading about. Whether Dreamer, Sleeper, or an ancient Immortal, there is something for everyone in these dark, inventive tales. It is refreshing to see a new take on the horror/occult/paranormal genre. I look forward to the first full-length novel in this series. Write on Mr. Hibbard write on!”

Justin Miller – Amazon Review – 5 stars

“I loved each story in its own way. They all left me wanting more, and when I got to the last page on my kindle app I was sad it was over. I purchased a physical copy as well to lend to friends so they could enjoy every page as I did. I encourage all readers to share this book with at least one friend.”

Sheri Smith – Amazon Review – 5 stars

“Immortal Memories: Volume 1 by E. Michael Hibbard is extremely well written and definitely appeals to a wide range of audiences. As a result, I enjoyed all of the stories each for different reasons.

My two favorite stories are “The Fairy in Red” and “So Long, But Never Say Good-Bye” due to the aspect of romance. However, be sure to note that the stories contained in this volume are definitely not that of romance. There are tales of torture, darkness, violence, rituals, and even hapless ghost hunters. All of which certainly make this an extraordinary read!

Since some of these characters transcend time, I am eagerly awaiting additional stories to see what new adventures await them whether past, present, or future!”

The House of the Dead Timbers

HouseOfDeadTimbersGreetings, Dreamers!

I have published The House of the Dead Timbers on Amazon, only on Kindle with some edits and a little bit of expansion in unclear passages.

I wanted to offer it for less than 0.99 cents, but Kindle has a limit unfortunately.  It is novelette length, about 30 pages, and 12,000 words.  I’m very happy with the quality of the work, and all the wonderful support I got while writing it.  The inspiration for the story came from the cover drawing, which I did many years ago.  I always had the story in my head, but Waking Dream became my focus for a very long time.

If you have already read it, please take a moment to pop on Amazon and give it a review.  All reviews, good and bad, help me become a better writer.  I am already working on a second piece that will pick up where the story left off.  I am working with Amazon to get the story into their Kindle Singles Program to gain more exposure for my work.  So any support from you, my friends, would be greatly appreciated.

Immortal Memories

Announcements!

HouseOfDeadTimbersGreetings, Dreamers!

Thank you for the success of the story and the interest!  I am going to be publishing the story in Kindle format, with some expanded content.  This will help my rankings on Amazon quite a bit for Waking Dream: Devlin

I would also like to announce, since the story drew such attention, I will be working on a series of other stories in the form of novelettes as well.  I call this series “The Sheregoth Saga”.  It will be the battle of the humans versus the Sheregoth, in their attempt to survive the surge from the Sheregoth armies.

Also, I am happy to announce that Immortal Memories will be going to publication on Kindle very soon.  This version will feature new stories, previously unpublished, and help expand on the content from Devlin, while I work feverishly to get Book II done, The Unkindness.  The cover for Immortal Memories will be revealed in the next two weeks!  So stay tuned.

Again, thank you all for your support!

Halloween Conspiracy

Greetings, Dreamers!

Its getting close to Halloween and I wanted to give you some information about Waking Dream and upcoming events!

Many reviews are coming in on the book, and they are 5 stars, so in that I am truly humbled.  I wanted to take a moment and give a little more information about the book and hopefully piqué your curiosity in picking up your copy today!

The town of Devlin is at the centre of a conspiracy that has been in motion for centuries.  One dark immortal will begin his plot to take over the world and cloak our planet in eternal twilight, beginning on Halloween — this coming Halloween. Waking Dream: Devlin begins with events on October 26, 2013.  Over the thirteen chapters and six days, the world will be dramatically changed, setting the stage for the next two books in the series.

Writing this book required outlining all nine novels to ensure continuity, and to not expose too much as we move forward on this adventure which will follow our present day time-line.  Waking Dream: Devlin is not easily classifiable in any one genre as it has elements of the paranormal, supernatural, horror and science fiction.  Here are just a few excerpts of the reviews about the series:

“Devlin itself put me in mind of a grown up version of Hogsmeade. Just because you didn’t get your letter from Hogwarts doesn’t mean you can’t be Awakened to your particular ability–that can happen at any time in your life. So take heart!

The events of the book take place in the autumn and there’s magic and the lifting of the veil in a very big way so it’s the perfect book for this time of year.” – V.L Craven (Autodidact in the Attic)

“If you like reading about the Paranormal then “Devlin” is a must read and you will deepen your knowledge of the power of weird itself.

Become a Dreamer, embrace your weirdness to break free from a world of sleepers & peer into the truth of your own Waking Dream as I have with this unique author, Michael Hibbard.”  – Thérèse Wood of (Grimnian Promotions)

“From start to finish I felt that the Waking Dream was real. This beautiful work of fiction brings not just a story, but a new life philosophy to the table. That coupled with the characters and their real relationships with each other kept the book in my hands until the end. The way the characters interacted with each other was real and not forced or unbelievable like a lot of fantasy. I can’t wait to see what other Weirdness awaits in the next book. Don’t forget to share this book with friends and fellow Dreamers.” – Justin Miller

The book is currently on sale on all  eBook formats for $4.99 (USD) on Amazon, Nook and on iTunes.

I hope you’ll take a chance to read it, and give me feed back so I know what direction you would like me to take with the series.  This is not only my dream, its is all of our dreams.

Be sure to tune in on The Book Report Radio with Elaine Charles to hear my first ever radio interview.  Airing on-line and ten radio markets on October 27th 2013 between 4-5 PM (EST)

I will also be doing a guest blog post on the influences of H.P. Lovecraft on my writing for a horror blog in the UK, so stay tuned for details!

Welcome to Devlin

DevlinGreetings, Dreamers!

With the release of my book, Devlin, I wanted to tell you a little more about it to give you an idea of what you are in for.

If you happen to be traveling in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, north of Charlottesville, you may be strangely dawn to a tiny, hidden town, nestled far away from the bustle of the modern world.  Its cobbled streets are lined with an eclectic collection of homes and buildings, adding to the uniqueness of the town itself.  From the quaint shops that line Rowe Street, to the Gothic Church of St. Michael, to the Autumn House Bed and Breakfast, Devlin is picturesque, peaceful and pastoral.

It has been hidden away from the world for over two centuries, and when I say hidden, I mean that only certain people can find it, and only if the town wants to be found.  Life has continued this way for the people of Devlin since the late 1700s, living self-sufficiently in peace and harmony, but that is about to change.

Beginning this Autumn, the people of Devlin uncover the truth behind the establishment of their town and discover an ancient plot that has spanned centuries, threatening the very existence of their town and the rest of the world. And as the town performs their yearly Halloween ritual, the world will never be the same.

Devlin is much more than dark fantasy.  It has elements of horror, paranormal, supernatural, and metaphysical.  Devlin has something for everyone.  I am an avid gamer; console, PC and role-play. The Waking Dream is nothing more than an exploration of our reality as a cosmic game. You can read more about the Waking Dream Universe in the following posts.

  1. The Story of Creation
  2. The Story of Immortality
  3. Of Sleepers and Dreamers
  4. The Way of the Weird
  5. The Three Realms

Devlin is on sale on Amazon and on all eBook readers.

First Review for Devlin

DevlinEarly copies of Waking Dream: Devlin Book I were sent out last week. Thérèse Wood of Grimnian Promotions submitted this review and posted it on Amazon.

“Are you awakened yet to your own ability? Are you a walking Sleeper?  Or a controlling disruptive entity?  Reading “Devlin” which is the first of Michael Hibbard’s Transformation Trilogy in the Waking Dream series, you identify with Jonathan Weir who intends to awaken others from the darkness, by encouraging their own weirdness to grow.

He warns and helps the other Dreamers and awakens the Sleepers to be more prepared for Gabryal’s nightmares to come.

If you like reading about the Paranormal then “Devlin” is a must read and you will deepen your knowledge of the power of weird itself.

Become a Dreamer, embrace your weirdness to break free from a world of sleepers & peer into the truth of your own Waking Dream as I have with this unique author, Michael Hibbard.

Join Jonathan now and Devlin town on their journey to solving the mystery.”

Thank you so much for taking the time to read the book, Thérèse!

Reblogged — Ghosts Aren’t What You Think They Are!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAGreetings Dreamers!

Sorry I’ve been away for a bit, but I’ve just discovered Twitter! Yep, pretty cool stuff. You can follow me at http://twitter.com/JustinTheWeird — (I thought Justin the Crier would make me look like a sissy to outsiders) You can get a chance to talk to all of us there, Me, Jeremy, Jeb, Jakob, Jack and my newest…erm…friend, Joe. (Gotta figure out what’s causing these new additions).

But enough about us, today I wanted to fill you in on what I have learned about Ghosts. Yep, mystery solved! It really is so simple, I’m just feeling silly that I didn’t figure it out on my own, and I think that Laertes purposefully kept me thinking about it, hoping I would figure it out on my own.

As I’ve told you before, there is a place called the Spaces Between, which is for all intents and purposes the Afterlife. When a Dreamer, or an Immortal dies, their true self — their spirit — returns to the Spaces Between so that they can decide which Sleeper they will inhabit when they return to the Waking Dream. I’ve also mentioned that they can peer into the lives of

<hours pass>

Good Evening, Again.

Jakob here. Evidently Justin can’t, in fact, out drink Jack, and as a result they are both asleep and I am left to impart on you the finer points of ghostliness. There are three distinct types of ghosts that you, the paranormal investigator or Ghost Hunter, should be aware of. And, you should understand that they are not to be trifled with. Now let’s proceed.

Type I Ghost — The Orb

Orbs are whole benevolent Dreamers simply observing the life of a potential body. Think of an orb as a ghostly probe being operated by Dreamers in the Spaces Between. They tend not to manifest themselves, simply observing without interfering with the storyline a particular Sleeper was living. Remember, a sleeper is like a novel.

Type II Ghost — The Apparition

Apparitions are fairly common and the most forlorn of our ghostly triad. These are Dreamers who have died, but do not realize they have died, nor do they have the ability to realize it. They have slowly slipped into their own self-contained universe, encapsulated in their consciousness. They do interact, but they are generally benign, however, there are those who become territorial and can use there Weirdness to assert their will on their surrounds. Make no mistake. This is a naturally occurring effect throughout the Waking Dream. Remember, a dreamer is the writer.

Type III Ghost — The People of Shadow

You have heard the term “shadow people” before, if you are familiar with the paranormal trends. However, That is a slight misnomer. The People of Shadow are a faction of dreamers who choose to live in the shadows. Very little is know about the People of Shadow, as their tradition is passed down through the centuries, secretly and in hushed tones. And, evidently, there has never been a traitor amongst them. No one reveals their secrets. I have theories, and many of them are insipid, however I can only think that they simply exist to intervene when necessary. What constitutes necessary still alludes me — I am reminded of the Mothman Prophecies. We cannot know their intentions, and does it matter if we do? Will we understand? Probably not, and it would probably ruin things. Life is a mystery for a reason.

So I leave you with this question: Would you read a book if you already knew the ending?
