Poisoned – A Song

How goodness turns to evil.

Born.
Raised.
Lived.
Died.

We are all poisoned.

The thought was pure, or so it seemed.
Make it together, gooey and warm.
Sweeter than what we’d dreamed.
Intentions were good before they tore.

Walking alone, on a path without light,
Bullied, battered, beaten and broke.
Warm shadows surrounding the soul’s night,
Filling the lungs with caustic smoke.

Trying to breathe, coughing hard,
Filling the lungs with putrid mist,
Over again, and back to the start,
Poisoned to the soul, dying within.

Crossroads at twilight, mud underfoot,
Directions around, no point to choose,
Alone again, and alone for always,
Swinging by my own tattered noose.

Trying to breathe, coughing hard,
Filling the lungs with putrid mist,
Over again, and back to the start,
Poisoned to the soul, dying within.

I cannot stop, it will not end,
Silent words of a dark friend,
Sleep, again sleep, you cannot hear
I’ve told you before there is nothing to fear.
Hide in your bed, in your mind, in your room,
Hush now, and sleep again, float away.
It will be over forever, til another day.

Open the door, no more light,
Shadows around, hiding apathy.
Ahead, alone, it isn’t right,
Killing happiness in the darkness of night.

Trying to breathe, coughing hard,
Filling the lungs with putrid mist,
Over again, and back to the start,
Poisoned to the soul, dying within.
